The goal was to design and build a destination attraction that would blend seamlessly with its seaside surroundings while offering an exciting and educational experience.

Our client wanted to create an immersive, high-quality outdoor adventure golf experience that would enhance the local tourism offering and encourage longer visitor stays on the seafront, and in addition:

Bring to life the fascinating history and heritage of Walmer and its coastal setting.

Feature 18 creatively designed holes, each themed around Roman and local icons.

Include interactive water features, sounds, and physical challenges such as rafts and bridges.

Appeal to all ages and abilities, providing both fun and a touch of storytelling.

Our Approach

Concept & Design

We developed the Roman Landings concept to take players on a journey through time — exploring Walmer’s maritime and military past alongside the drama of Roman conquest and adventure.


• Created detailed site plans and 3D visualisations to map player flow and accessibility.
• Developed a strong thematic storyline connecting each hole to a key historical element or landmark.
• Incorporated authentic Roman textures, coastal motifs, and soundscapes to enhance immersion.
• Designed special interactive moments — including raft crossings, water hazards, and themed props such as castles, boats, and Roman galleys.

Theme & Construction

• Constructed durable, weather-resistant props and structures to withstand the coastal environment.
• Built signature features including The Roman Galley, The Duke of Wellington, and Walmer Castle holes.
• Installed ambient sound effects and flowing water elements to heighten realism.
• Used high-quality artificial turf, natural rockwork, and hand-crafted detailing to ensure both playability and aesthetic appeal.
• Integrated safety and accessibility measures throughout the course.

Installation & Delivery

• Managed all aspects of on-site construction and landscaping.
• Coordinated with local authorities to ensure smooth delivery and minimal disruption to the seafront.
• Completed the full 18-hole course on time and within budget, ready for its grand summer opening in July 2022.

The Results

Since opening, Roman Landings Adventure Golf has become a standout attraction for Walmer, contributing to the area’s revitalisation and increased visitor numbers.
