Design and build an 18-hole course that captures the drama and atmosphere of the Battle of Hastings.
Blend historical theming with engaging gameplay suitable for all ages.
Use realistic props, scenic detailing, and storytelling to transport players back to 1066.
Ensure the build was robust, weather resistant, and low maintenance for year-round outdoor use.
Our Approach

Concept & Design
We began with extensive research into the historical events and aesthetics of 1066 to ensure accuracy and authenticity while keeping the experience fun and accessible.
- Created concept art and 3D layouts illustrating medieval landscapes, castles, and battlefields.
- Designed each of the 18 holes to reflect a different moment or theme from the story — from Viking invasions to Norman fortifications.
- Integrated narrative storytelling, with signage and theming guiding players through the events of the Battle of Hastings.

Theme & Construction
- Built bespoke props and set pieces including wooden fortifications, shields, swords, catapults, and armour displays.
- Used sculpted terrain, stonework, and artificial grass to create realistic medieval landscapes.
- Incorporated sound effects and interactive elements for added immersion — such as battle sounds and ambient medieval music.
- Constructed all features using high-durability, weatherproof materials designed for outdoor play.

Installation & Delivery
- Coordinated fulll site preparation, landscaping, and installation in partnership with Golf World’s management.
- Delivered the complete themed 18-hole course on time and within budget.
- Provided staff with maintenance and operational guidance to ensure longevity and performance.
The Results
The 1066 Battle of Hastings Adventure Golf has been a landmark success for Golf World Stansted, setting it apart from other courses in the region.
